MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF DEPARTMENT

Dear University Community and Esteemed Members of the Public,

On behalf of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, University of Ilorin, I extend warm greetings to you all. Our department remains steadfast in its commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and clinical care, aligning with the University’s bold pursuit of its vision of 1, 10, 100: being the number one university in Nigeria, ranked among the top 10 universities in Africa, and counted among the top 100 universities globally.

Children are at the heart of our mission, representing both the foundation of our future and the catalyst for societal progress. To support the University’s ambitious vision, we are dedicated to advancing child health through cutting-edge research, innovative teaching, and evidence-based clinical practices. By doing so, we aim to produce paediatricians and child health experts who can compete on a global scale and contribute meaningfully to elevating the University’s standing internationally.

Our department is actively addressing key child health challenges, particularly those unique to our region, such as infectious diseases, malnutrition, and access to routine immunisations. Through strategic collaborations with local and international organizations, we are developing sustainable solutions that align with global best practices. This aligns seamlessly with the University’s vision of fostering groundbreaking research and impactful community engagement.

Education remains central to our efforts, and we are committed to producing world-class graduates equipped to serve as leaders in paediatric healthcare. Our goal is to contribute to the University’s quest for excellence by producing graduates who are recognized globally for their expertise and professionalism.

In line with the Vision 1, 10, 100, we are expanding our research portfolio to address child health priorities that resonate on a global scale. By publishing in high-impact journals and engaging in international collaborations, we aim to raise the profile of both our department and the University as a center of excellence in pediatric healthcare and research.

We also take pride in our community-focused initiatives, including public health campaigns, seminars, and outreach programs. These efforts not only enhance child health outcomes locally but also demonstrate the University’s commitment to meaningful societal impact—a key pillar of its global aspirations.
