The Department was established at the time of creation of the Faculty of Health Sceinces in the University of Ilorin. Since then, the department has witnessed tremendous growth in personnel covering specialities of paediatrics and Child Health. The Department of Paediatrics and Child Health consists of members with expertise in General Paediatrics, Paediatric nephrology, Paediatric haematology/ oncology, Paediatric neurology, Paediatric cardiology, Paediatric dermatology, Paediatric pulmonology, Adolescent medicine and Paediatric gastroenterology. These subspecialities cover all the domains of the field of paediatrics and child health.
The Department administers the Paediatric and Child Health undergraduate posting at the 500 Level of the Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery Programme. Additionally, the department also provides tutoring during the introduction to clinical sciences posting and supports the Community Based Education and Services Programme (COBES) of the College of Health Sciences. The Department also offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. Staff of the Department also provide clinical services in the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.
The department is committed to the University’s mission of teaching, learning, research and community development services in the field of Paediatrics and Child Health. It is aimed at producing men and women who are well-trained in all facets of Paediatrics and Child Health with the main purpose of meeting national and international needs in the area of the MB;BS programme.
